Tsaghkadzor

55 km to the north-east of Yerevan, in a scenic land is the Tsaghkadzor resort, the name of which is translated from Armenian as "Flower valley (or gorge)". It is situated 1700-1900 m above sea level, on the eastern slope of the Teghenis Mountain. Tsaghkadzor is famous for its numerous pensions, rest houses and sports facilities. Its popularity as a mountain-skiing resort grew especially after the construction of a new cableway.
Tsaghkadzor hosts the marvelous monastery complex called Kecharis consisting of 4 churches and 2 chapels. The main church, St. Grikor was built in 1013. The burial vault of Grandmaster Grikor Pahlavuni, the founder of the monastery is within the territory of the complex.
